Social Entrepreneurs Who "Share the Wealth" Find Fierce Advocate in TheNewUSWoman.com

The New US Woman has relaunched in 2010 with a stronger focus on entrepreneurs who have a passion for activism and philanthropy. The new business model links business success to philanthropic giving and the site's change in titles from a "Top CEO Directory" to a "Social Entrepreneurs Network and Directory" also reflects the desire to redefine success and  who deserves to be at the "top."

"I am trying to level the playing field for new start-ups, but I want them to link their business to a cause higher than a six figure income" says CEO, Rosanne Ferreri-Feske. "I want to make 'sharing the wealth' a virtue again, harkening back to the sharing of loaves and fishes on a hillside in Galilee and the story of the Good Samaritan. The pure capitalist model benefits those that cut corners, lay off employees, and hoard to improve shareholder value. That's not an equitable model for a global village.

Social Entrepreneurship isn't narrowly defined on this site to a cause that makes sweeping worldwide change; if your passion is helping a particular woman's shelter in your small town, it deserves to be in the spotlight so others can contribute and duplicate your philanthropic model.  The point is to do good and do it frequently-- not to put parameters on the giver and giving--and to furthermore let clients and prospective employees know that you are company that makes sacrifices for the common good.

There are several entrepreneur directories online; some give either the charity or the CEO the spotlight; many limit visibility to "members only" or are for "women only." But, TheNewUSWoman.com is an open directory that uses nine points of promotion to give balanced visibility to both the business and its favorite charity. The site is titled "The NEW US Woman"  to nudge women to address the cultural, political, and religious traditions that keep women in secondary status throughout the US and the world. Men who wish to use a more equitable business model are more than welcome to join this directory too!

I believe that giving at the local level is essential, which is why I personally give at local food banks and women's shelters in TN; I tutor for literacy and serve food through Room at the Inn, in addition to giving internationally through  Beyond Borders which keeps young Haitian girls out of servitude as "restaveks" and in school. I have also supported Compassion International for 5+ years.

All of us can do our part to make this world a better place and we can use our business as the vehicle for change 365 days a year, not just when a tragedy strikes.

Sincerely,
Rosanne Ferreri-Feske
